Also, the kitchen sink stopped draining, so I had to do a little emergency plumbing repair yesterday. That was probably the most vile, disgusting, and foul-smelling thing I've ever had to deal with. I pulled a HUGE mass of grease, dirt, hair, sediment, and whatever out of the kitchen drain cleanout in the basement, snaked out even more grossness, and then took apart the sink trap assembly to find it was completely clogged too! It's no wonder the kitchen sink smelled bad sometimes. I rebuilt the trap assembly with all new parts and blasted the grime out of the drain with the garden hose... and now the kitchen sink actually drains! It was slow when we moved in but I figured it was a venting problem, not a clog problem.
I can't believe I forgot to post better "after" pics of the kitchen!
Here is the 1955 kitchen with all appliances and clutter in place for about 2 months. To "finish it off", I will be painting the ceiling white (at the same time as the laundry and spare room upstairs) and probably getting some inexpensive rolled flooring for now until I can afford something nicer. My ideal flooring for the kitchen/pantry/laundry is a black/white alternating square tile, probably 9".
